FRÖDIN DESIGNS
From the outset, Mikael Frödin possessed a big interest in the historical aspects of salmon fishing, fly tying, and traditional practices. However, he quickly forged his own path, prioritizing functionality and the swimming behavior of flies over adherence to tradition and customs. This pursuit of progress is inherent to the essence of fly fishing, where the constant quest for improvement adds excitement to the sport. Whether it's advancements in flies or other equipment, our tackle is evolving rapidly. While the fish themselves remain unchanged, our ability to outsmart them improves over time. While we hold great respect for the achievements of our predecessors, it's undeniable that with our modern tackle and innovative flies, we would undoubtedly surpass their successes today.
Our flies boast functionality and movement that surpass the capabilities of the old classics. With modern lines, rods, and reels, we're prepared for any fishing scenario. Our hooks and leaders are of superior quality, giving us the freedom to choose where and how we fish. Tackle no longer limits us – this is the essence of progress, and it's truly remarkable! It's now our experience and skill that determine our success in outsmarting the fish. As our salmon stocks decrease and runs become smaller, perhaps we require even better equipment to adapt to these challenges.
Mikael has always been enthusiastic about exploring new solutions. With his extensive experience in salmon fishing and a fondness for imaginative experimentation, he's developed numerous unique products over the years. Mikael's contributions have greatly influenced what is known as the "Scandinavian Style" of salmon fishing and fly tying. His goal? To create flies that swim more effectively, resulting in more takes, more enjoyment, and a deeper passion for our beloved sport. This is the essence of "Frödin Designs" – a culmination of ideas and innovative products born from countless days spent on the water.

Frödin Designs
Mikael Frödin had already from the start a great interest in the history behind salmon fishing, fly tying and the classic traditions, but he early started to go his own way. Functionality and the way the flies were swimming became more important than the traditions and old customs. This is what progress is all about, to make things better, and this is part of what makes fly fishing so exciting. Whether it is flies or other equipment, all our tackle is progressing in a high speed. The fish remains the same but our skill to outwit it is getting better by time. With all due respect for our old heroes, fact remains that with our tackle and flies we would certainly out-fish them today.
Our flies are more functional, swim and move in a way that the old classics never could. With today’s lines, rods and reels we are equipped for all situations. Our hooks and leaders are superior. We choose where and how we want to fish. The tackle is never the restricting element – this is progress and it’s fantastic! It’s up to our experience and skill to outwit the fish and perhaps we need better equipment since our salmon stocks are getting more and more threatened and the runs smaller and smaller.
